starlight florist (LP 2022)
Escape into the fantasy world of starlight florist. The fully animated, debut lofi album by SJR Caldwell welcomes you with hand-drawn illustrations, poetry, dialogue, and more. As you dive into the lore scattered across the songs and videos, you get to learn more about the characters, locations, and events which make up the world. Think of it like a cross between a book and a concept album.
“starlight florist” has been a true labor of love—a solo project two years in the making. SJR Caldwell wrote, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered the album; illustrated and animated the music videos; and wrote the poetry which conceptualized the world. In all, that makes for 9 different album covers in addition to the main cover, 3 music videos in addition to the main animation, and a total of 17 tracks clocking in at 45 minutes in length.
Deep within a fantasy forest where strange creatures play and time moves oddly through a dreamlike haze—starlight filters down through a dense forest canopy, bounding the edges of leaves with the remnants of glimmering light. And as twinkling lights from the distant city merge with the shimmering night sky, an orchestra swells ever upward, until it is just a memory in the abyss of space. Gentle piano and ghostly theremin reach to you from across the cosmos, and radio chatter fills the air…prepare for an adventure both surreal and epic.
The Daydream Dispatches
You can see the tentacled creature (the Ferryman) and its pet dragon are hard at work as journalists for the newspaper. They're working in a cozy castle keep which overlooks a massive mountain range. As the snow gently falls, the dragon bobs its head to the music while the Ferryman uses a box to beam words onto the page. The music features an aching, grand melody which hangs over a tender backdrop. Intimate drums keep the music grounded, even as an elven choir swells into the foreground.
The Vale of Forgotten Dreams
This song is found deep within a fantasy forest, where strange creatures play, and time moves lazily through a dreamlike haze. The long-forgotten vale rests tranquilly in the eternal, twilit night, as wooden flutes raise a longing melody. Elven choirs emerge from the lush forest canopy, and sing of all their forgotten dreams.
echoes of hanging starlight
Starlight filters through a dense forest canopy, bounding the edges of leaves with the remnants of glimmering light. Their celestial echoes flutter down to the forest floor, tracing heavenly arcs across the earthly domain. A kalimba and music box weave steep angles like falling starlight, while a quiet melody in the English horn embodies the wooded setting. Rustling forest ambience and distant bird calls set the stage for what’s to come: a full orchestra perfect for a fantasy soundtrack.
