The challenging nature of New Music remains a deterrent to the algorithm. Should we despair over this intractable dilemma?

Let’s emphasize recordings as critical to accessibility and outreach, and help to make more fans of the beautiful world of New Music.

The performance took place at a venue called the LilyPad located within Inman Square, Cambridge. It’s a trendy little place, and when the show began it was a packed house positively brimming with excitement. The musicians played superbly, and any of my pre-show jitters quickly melted away as they performed my piece. Following the concert, we went out on the town to celebrate a successful show, and I had the opportunity to meet many kind musicians.

A few years ago, I discovered LoFi hip-hop, and it honestly blew my mind. Mellow and dreamy, like a half-forgotten childhood memory, it is music seen through a veil of vinyl crackle, ambient sounds, and equipment malfunctions.

My new piece for guitar and electronics is a big departure from my previous work, and it took some courage for me to release. It takes place within a fictional, dystopian social club and it’s equal parts strange, joyful, and dreadful. Listen/watch here!

About a year and a half ago I took up painting—and wow, has it been a journey! I don’t have any formal experience, and that’s sort of the beauty of it. No rules, no ideas, no plans. Just me and my digital painting tablet, trying to make something that’s not bad.

There were performances, a recording session, and two conferences in less than a month! A huge thank you to all the awesome musicians who made it happen.

The beginning of 2020 will be packed with events for me, and it’s truly a pleasure to be working with so many great people. Events include N_SEME, the Illinois Modern Ensemble, and NASA.
