Collaboration for Timbre EP
My new piece for guitar and electronics is a big departure from my previous work, and it took some courage for me to release. It’s equal parts strange, joyful, and dreadful. It takes place within a fictional, dystopian social club (The Tremendous Puddles Club) which is of my own creation. The club is for very large puddles who wish to ascend their social rank and be known as lakes (a much-desired moniker). Though, as the subtitle “Where No One is a Lake and Everyone is Sad” suggests, the club is deficient in its duties. Imagine cheap lounges filled with vinyl leather couches, echoing with elevator music, and bursting with self-help aficionados. Just lovely!
This piece could not have come into existence without Drew Farrar on guitar. This is our second collaboration together, and it was his interest in old infomercials that sparked my imagination. Our collaboration comes as part of Timbre, an initiative under New Music Collage. Elsie Bae Han started Timbre as a composer/performer collaborative project, and I was overjoyed to take part in its first round.
