Sonnet II

Check out my most recent piece! It’s for solo flute with two delays, and it’s in the form of a sonnet. More specifically, I’m talking about a Shakespearean sonnet of three quatrains and a couplet (abab cdcd efef gg). Flutist Aleah Fitzwater brought this project to life with her impeccable craft, and I had so much fun working with her (again!) If you didn’t catch Sonnet I then you can find it on my SoundCloud here.

Aside from the alternating phrases which mimic the rhyming effect of poetry, you’ll notice that Sonnet II contains two, sharply contrasting sections—the Domanda and Volta. Traditionally, the Domanda sets up a question which the Volta attempts to resolve, so be sure to listen for that dialog, and decide it’s meaning.
